Adhesives To Put Dental Crowns Back

If you have crowns on your teeth it is never a good idea to try and put them back using your own adhesives, even if you know which ones to do.  There is always a risk that there could be a toxic reaction that could poison you…sometimes fatally.

But, if you do want to have strong crowns that you are sure won’t fall out, your best bet is to do a little research so when you do go to your dentist you can ask for an adhesive that you have faith in.

The three main types of crowns are:

  • Acrylic
  • Composite
  • Porcelain / Ceramic
  • Reinforced Porcelain
  • Lucite Porcelain

Once the tooth has been trimmed down and all of the rot and excess material has been removed the adhesive is placed on and followed by the crown itself.  It is then left to sit so that the adhesive can take hold and ensure that the crown will be solid and stay in the same place.  The last thing you want is your crown falling off.

While the crowns used by today’s dentists are very safe there is a chance that if your crowns are very old or even if you had them done in another country they may be toxic.  This means that if they were to get loose they could then fall into your mouth and makes your extremely ill.

If this is the case, and it is often the case with metal crowns, you may want to go to your dentist and have them take a look and see if there is anything they can do to prevent any crown related maladies.

This could means taking the crowns out and then using a very strong adhesive, but even this would be a little reckless.  Most likely the dentist will take the crowns out and place new ones in your mouth.  This may be costly but it could prevent serious illness.

But, again the worst thing you could do is try to perform this procedure yourself, no matter how much you think you know there is no way you can get the angle to properly see what you are doing.  Also, there are probably a few things you don’t know that could seriously affect the outcome of the procedure.
