Candidacy for Dental Implants

Dental Implants are artificial teeth that are placed on an artificial post, which is incorporated into the patient’s alveolar bone. If you would like to improve the appearance of your smile, you can consider dental implants; however, you have to find out if you are a suitable candidate.

Ideal Candidate for Dental Implants

You are a candidate for dental implants if you are in good health, but are missing one or several teeth due to tooth decay or an accident. Ideally, you should have some alveolar bone on which the implants can be placed. However, even if you don’t, bone grafting will be possible. You shouldn’t have infected gums or alveolar bones, as these can compromise the implant. If you are affected by periodontal disease, the implants won’t be recommended, as they won’t last.

Your lifestyle may also influence the durability of the implant, so it’s best if you have a proper dental hygiene and are a non smoker. Smoking can delay the healing of the surgery wounds and may also contribute to the rejection of the implant. You should discuss with your dental surgeon into more detail and find out if you qualify for this procedure. There are no age limitations.
