Da Vinci Veneers - Procedure & Advantages

What are da Vinci Veneers?

Da Vinci veneers are a special type of dental implant that are manufactured in California and found throughout the country. These veneers differ from standard veneers in their design and because they are made from porcelain, as opposed to plastic compounds.

How do da Vinci Veneers work?

Da Vinci Veneers are designed to address a variety of different cosmetic issues of the teeth. They are most commonly used to fill in spaces between the teeth, to help correct for teeth that aren't straight or that are differently sized, or to alter the coloration of teeth that have been stained. The porcelain veneers are bonded directly to the surface of the tooth with a specialty dental cement.

What are the advantages of da Vinci Veneers over similar treatments?

While other veneers are often made from plastic polymer compounds, da Vinci veneers are made from porcelain. This gives them a distinctive appearance that many people find is closer to that of real teeth. Da Vinci veneers are less likely to stain and discolor over time than many types of plastic polymer veneers. Furthermore, da Vinci veneers are designed specifically to fit into your mouth, so the likelihood of an improper fit or a painful adjustment period after the veneers are installed is diminished.

Who is a candidate for da Vinci Veneers?

Da Vinci veneers should only be placed on adult teeth that have grown in fully. It's important that the teeth be unlikely to shift considerably, as this can not only jeopardize the strength of the veneer, but also cause dental problems and pain. For this reason, da Vinci veneers should only be given to adults or to children with fully grown adult teeth.

How is the procedure performed?

The first portion of the da Vinci veneers procedure will be a fitting and molding. As a patient, you'll visit the dentist's office to have a plaster molding made of your teeth. This molding will then be sent off to the manufacturer of the veneers, which will create a veneer that is specifically designed to be fit over your affected area. This process typically takes about two weeks. The manufacturer will then send the veneers back to the dentist, who will install them in a second meeting. The veneers are bonded to the teeth via a specialized dental cement.

What is the recovery like?

There is little to no recovery period after being fit with da Vinci veneers. You may be instructed to wait a few hours to ensure a solid bonding before you eat or drink. It's important to monitor the fit of the veneers and to report any pain or related effects to your dentist.

What are the risks?

There are few risks associated with these veneers. You may experience heightened sensitivity to especially hot and cold foods and drinks. Your da Vinci veneers will likely need to be replaced or rebonded every 10 to 15 years.
