Post-core

Post-core refers to the visible part of the post (a thin metal rod used in root canal therapy) that is used to anchor a cap or crown. It is used in a dental crown cosmetic procedure in instances where the affected tooth requires additional endodontic (root canal) therapy.

Also known as the “post-and-core” foundation this process is followed when the cosmetic dentist feels that there is a need to build a foundation (post) as a prerequisite for placing a dental crown on the affected tooth. Procedure wise the affected tooth will need to be filed down in order for the dental crown to be an appropriate fit.
