Post-crown

Post-crown refers to a type of dental crown used on affected teeth that require additional endodontic (root canal) therapy. This single structure combines the crown with the post-core.

In cases where the minimum amount of tooth structure above the surface of the gum is absent root canal therapy on the affected teeth is a necessary prerequisite to hold a dental crown. For a dental crown to be installed the remaining pulp in the affected areas must be removed and cleaned. A post is then inserted into the root canal of the tooth. Additionally a core must be built over the visible part of the post in order for a foundation to be built. On this foundation the dental crown will be inserted creating post-crown(s).
