Pulp chamber refers to the innermost portion of the tooth that contains the pulp. It is located within the visible portion of the tooth above the gums (the crown) and there is only one pulp chamber per tooth. The pulp chamber is a vital component of the tooth as it contains the pulp which contains the blood vessels nerves and connectives of a tooth.
In cases where infected pulp is found within the pulp chamber it must be removed through endodontic treatment. Damages to the pulp can be a result of a cracked tooth or a deep cavity and in these instances the damage must be removed from the pulp chamber and the root canals. The pulp chamber and root canals are then enlarged and a filling is attached in order to prevent bacteria from entering these areas. A crown is placed over the tooth in order to retain the original shape of the tooth.
