Can the colour of porcelain crowns be changed before being permanently cemented?

I have 8 porcelain crowns applied with temporary cement. Can the color be changed at the lab?

In most cases, yes. If you are not happy with the color have your dentist remove the crowns and return them to the lab with detailed instructions. Even better, with the crowns in place, go directly to the lab and talk to the technician about your concerns so they can visualize what you are wanting. Once the crowns are put on with final cement, they're yours to keep.

Yes and no. It is possible to change the color through a number of techniques. One technique is staining on top of the porcelain. This can be accomplished only if the crowns are very close to your ideal colors. Otherwise, the recommended technique is stripping the porcelain and re-stacking porcelain if the porcelain is stacked on metal. If the crowns are made of eMax or something the transmits colors, then you may need to remake the crowns altogether. Consult with your dentist for the best solution for your particular case.
