There are 2 types of pulp capping:
1. Indirect pulp cap- which is when there is alot of decay which extends to the pulp. Not all the decay is removed, otherwise there would be a pulp exposure. A specific medicament is painted in the area and a temporary filling is added. Cross your fingers and say a prayer and hope the nerve recedes and later on replace with a more "permanent filling or crown.

2. Direct Pulp Cap: all the decay is cleaned out but there is a small pulp exposure( slight bleeding point) Again the area is disinfected and a specific medicament is painted on and a temporary filling or temporary crown is done. Wait for 2 or 3 months, pray and hope there is no pain or abscess.

Root canal or tooth extraction?
I am in a bind, as I do not have dental insurance at the moment, and I've got an infection in my mouth from a broken filling or fractured tooth. The dentist insists I have a root canal, but that is financially impossible right now, since he wants payment in full with the completion of the work - and I don't have the money. I am taking amoxicillin to kill the infection. Could I wait till I have a new job and insurance to get the root canal, or would an extraction be cheaper right now? I'm a 44 year old woman. Thank you
