Crowned tooth (#19) is infected. Extract or root canal?

I have a crowned tooth (tooth #19) that is infected. The crown is 8 yrs old. Would it be better to have the tooth extracted or have a root canal?

This depends on multiple factors. For example, is the tooth compromised in any way? Limited remaining tooth structure? Failed root canal? Position of tooth relative to the arch form or jaw. There are more factors but these are the major ones. If all else is healthy, root canal is the most conservative treatment. Otherwise, implant may be a more conservative solution as long as bone structure can support it because the infected tooth may be subjected to stresses that it cannot handle and fails prematurely.
