The Cost and Financing of Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a procedure that will cut into the gum tissue to expose more of the alveolar bone and lengthen the visible part of the tooth. The procedure may be performed for esthetic reasons, if the patient has short teeth, but may also be required to perform a dental procedure that involves the alveolar part of the tooth. The costs of crown lengthening may vary.

Costs of Crown Lengthening

The average costs of a crown lengthening procedure are between $1,500 and $2,000. The costs may vary from one dental surgeon to the other and may also be different in various locations in the country. Prior to the surgery, a thorough cleaning of the teeth may also be required. This may cost between $100 and $300, depending on the clinic. Additional costs should also be considered (i.e. the filling that needs to be performed on the tooth).

Insurance Coverage

When the crown lengthening procedure is performed for esthetic purposes, insurance will not cover the costs of the procedure, but most dental clinics will have a payment plan. If the crown lengthening is performed to save a tooth, part of the surgery should be covered by insurance, as it is not considered an elective procedure.
